Please join us for the an exciting, interesting & thought-provoking meeting of the HBS Club of Atlanta's Entrepreneur Special Interest Group

7:30AM-8AM NETWORKING  8AM-9AM SPEAKER

The for-profit education sector is rapidly evolving. Education companies are going public, entrepreneurs are flooding into the space, and disruptive change is taking place. Meet an entrepreneur whose Atlanta-based educational child care company is helping set the pace for the industry.

In 2011, Jo was named the regional winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the service category, and in October of 2007, to Catalyst magazine’s Top 25 Entrepreneurs in Atlanta. Primrose Schools was named as one of the top Atlanta-based franchises by the Atlanta Business Chronicle in 2006. Additionally, Primrose was named number one in growth by Child Care Business and was featured as the top child care franchise by Entrepreneur magazine in 2003. Come hear a lively discussion on entrepreneurship, franchising, and what it takes to grow a company to scale.

SPEAKER: Jo Kirchner, President & CEO of Primerose Schools, a franchise of more than 240 educational child care schools in 17 states.

As President and Chief Executive Officer of Primrose Schools, Jo Kirchner is responsible for overseeing strategic direction for the company and managing its vision, brand and business strategies, while guiding new business development to drive growth and profitability for the franchise system.

Kirchner first began her career with Primrose Schools more than two decades ago. Working with Primrose founders, Paul and Marcy Erwin, she helped launch the concept of franchising a premiere educational environment for preschool-age children. In 1990, Kirchner served as Vice President of the company, was promoted to Senior Vice President in 1995 and became President and CEO in 1999. Under her leadership, Primrose grew from four schools in Atlanta, to more than 24 schools in 1998, to 100 schools in 2002. Today, the brand has more than 240 schools in 17 states and is rapidly continuing to grow.

With her lifelong passion to improve early childhood education in the United States and create access to quality education for all children, Jo also dedicates her time to advancing education and youth leadership excellence.

Jo serves on the AdvancED Corporation and Distance Education Council and the AdvancED Accreditation Commission. AdvancED is the parent organization of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). In 2010, AdvancED named Jo the first international Excellence in Education Award Winner for accredited corporations. Jo was recognized for her leadership and contributions in promoting and advancing excellence in education, especially in serving young children. She also serves on the board of the Early Care and Education Consortium, a non-profit alliance connecting America’s national, regional and independent providers of high-quality child care and early education programs.

Jo’s love for serving children extends beyond early childhood education. She currently sits on the board of trustees for the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping children in need through providing philanthropic and volunteer support for  Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Although Jo has been recognized for her outstanding leadership abilities, she continues to seek out opportunities to learn and enhance her skill set. Jo is a graduate of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2011 and serves as a member of the International Franchise Association (IFA) and the American Management Association of Sales and Marketing Executives.

Before joining Primrose, Kirchner was the President and Founder of Creative Logistics, an Atlanta-based marketing firm offering strategic planning, advertising and public relations. She previously served as Vice President and Publisher at two Atlanta-based magazine publishing companies and as a sales executive for Proctor Silex Corporation.

Jo graduated with an associate degree in marketing from Ohio Career College. One of her greatest achievements has been maintaining a strong work-life balance. She has been married more than 35 years, and places quality time with her family of highest importance. She lives on a horse farm in Dallas, Ga., with her husband Rick and has two grown children, a son-in-law and two grandchildren.
